City Parks and Recreation has variety of events upcoming

Activities culminate National Parks and Recreation Month in July – Information call 544-5436

Open House - all the Recreation Centers will be on Tuesday, July 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. An Open House for all the Senior Centers will be on Wednesday, July 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Lunch Time Stories in the Park – The guest speakers for the noon time stories at San Jacinto Plaza will feature Cinco Puntos Press owners Lee and Bobby Byrd. This is the first year of popular event in coordination with the Small Business Administration, El Paso Times Newspaper, El Paso Times Online and the City Parks and Recreation Department. This will be from noon – 1pm.

Family Overnight Outing Adventure – This is another first time Parks and Recreation endeavor in having families together overnight for games swimming and other outdoor activities at Memorial Park in central El Paso. The event starts at 4:00 p.m. on July 25, Friday ending on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Sports Extravaganza – This event from July 25 – 27 will give the opportunity for the general public to visit Nations Tobin Sports Center, 8831 Railroad Dr. and experience all the great sports the department offers from baseball to soccer as some activities will be held at Nations Tobin Park also. This event is free of charge like all of the mentioned events and will have hours of 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Pachanga Concerts – The music will be center stage at Westside Park for on July 27 at Westside Center, 7400 High Ridge. Featured entertainment will be the Magnum Blue Band playing music to keep you dancing all night. The fun starts at 7:00 p.m. and with free admission.

Scenic Sundays – This will continue each Sunday through August 31. On July 27 from 6:00 a.m. to Noon there will be the opportunity to ride over Scenic Drive or walk by yourself or with your pet as the street is blocked off.

Parks and Recreation Night at the El Paso Diablos – July 29, Parks and Recreation Director Nanette Smejkal will throw out the first pitch for the Parks and Recreation festivities at the game. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.
