Landscapes, Still Lifes and Stoppers is the title of the first fall show of 2008 at the gallery at Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches, 5857 North Mesa opening Thursday, September 4 and showing through Saturday, October 4. The show will include assorted media by El Pasoan Candy Mayer, oils by El Pasoan Bob Adams, and hand blown glass and metal wine bottle stoppers by artists from around the US.

As a full-time artist, Candy Mayer creates landscapes and still lifes of the Southwest and the borderland in pastels, acrylics, pen & ink, and mixed media collage. Candy has a BFA in Art and Art Education from the University of South Dakota and has lived in the border area since 1999. Her inspiring work of Southwest themes showcases her talent for color, composition and design. She has exhibited and won recognitions in competitions, including the Arts International, the Sun Bowl, the Paquime Festival in Casas Grandes, Mexico and many El Paso Art Association events.

Bob Adams, award-winning artist from El Paso, Texas, was born in Oklahoma and grew up with the Kiowas and Comanche Indians as his next door neighbors. This greatly influenced Bob and the experience instilled the desire to express these feelings in his artwork. Bob’s work has won several awards and has been accepted for over seven consecutive years in the “Arts International Exhibit,” one of the southwest region’s largest juried art competitions. Adams was honored to have a one-man show in El Paso’s historic Camino Real Hotel, where he exhibited twenty-five works, many of which were purchased. Mr. Adams has exhibited in many shows in both Texas and New Mexico and his works can be found in galleries in both states. His paintings are also in private collections throughout the United States.

The use of hand blown and glass and metal in functional pieces for the home is a growing movement for US artists. Because wine is the symbol of pleasure and good taste, artists are using the bottle stopper as a new venue for showing their sculptural designs. The showing will include stoppers made of handblown glass, mixed metal, and other media
that complement an wine bottle and make it into a piece of art.
