AM Radio (Charlando con la Gringa)

What: Simultaneous radio show, press conference,
and panel discussion regarding Hip Hop music in El
Paso.

When: Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: The Percolator at 217 N Stanton St. in
Downtown El Paso

Why: To discuss what type of impact hip hop music
has on our society, as told through a dialogue
between performers, law enforcement, hip hop
advocates and hip hop critics. Topics covered will
be whether Hip Hop music encourages violence
against women and other criminal behavior, and to
what extent, if any, can hip hop be blamed for
crimes like the recent shooting at Grahams Central
Station. The open-mike discussion will be
broadcast live on the "Charlando con la Gringa"
radio show and the panel discussion will be
coordinated by Dr. Joseph Villescas, UTEP
lecturer. This event is organized by the Del
Pueblo Alliance, a group of artists and El Pasoans
whose goal is to promote the history, culture and
dialogue of issues that impact the border.
