Music, Contests, Prizes & More
El Paso, Texas—People and their pets usher in autumn at the 4th Annual Pets Alive HOWL-O-WINE Dog Walk Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at La Vina Winery in La Union, NM. Participants celebrate with the one-mile walk around the beautiful grounds of La Vina while family, friends and favorite canines help raise funds to fight pet overpopulation and support spay/neuter programs. On-site registration begins at 12 p.m. and the walk at 1 p.m. For more information, rules and guidelines or to register ($15 for one dog, $20 for two in advance), call (915) 855-7273 or log on to www.petsaliveelpaso.org Donations are tax deductible and can be sent to Pets Alive-El Paso, 9398 Viscount, Bldg. 5-A, El Paso, TX 79925.
Event proceeds benefit low-cost spay/neuter programs in West Texas and Southern New Mexico. The non-profit Pets Alive El Paso works to help El Paso become a “No Kill” of adoptable pets community by covering costs of spay/neuter services through a variety of sponsored programs. Its voucher program pays pre-determined fees to participating veterinarians to cover spay/neuter costs for area pets, helping ensure an eventual “No Kill” status for the region’s dogs and cats.
More than 25,000 dogs and cats are killed in El Paso animal shelters each year, most of these at El Paso Animal Regulation and Disease Control. Studies show that low-income households contribute disproportionately to pet overpopulation and that providing free and low-cost spay/neuter services to these households is the quickest, most cost-effective way to reduce pet overpopulation.
