Franklin Mountains Full Moon Hike

What: Hike in Franklin Mountains State Park

When: 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26

Where: Upon entering the Tom Mays Unit of the state park, take the first road to your right. This will lead you to the parking lot where we will be meeting

Leader: Nora Butler, 759-9699 or nbutler@elp.rr.com. Butler is a Texas Master Naturalist and FMSP volunteer for 5 years.

Bring: Minimum of 1 quart of water, appropriate hiking shoes, jacket, flashlight. Optional: Snacks. No pets, please.

Length: 2 1/2 t o 3 hours

Cost: Park entrance fee of $4 per person, 12 and under free

Maximum people: 20

Summary: We will be hiking Mundy's Gap trail under the light of the full moon. This is a good opportunity to experience and appreciate our majestic mountains under a different setting. Once we have reached our destination (saddle), visitors will have a remarkable view of the east side and west side city lights under the spectacularly lit full moon. This is an unusual event you don't want to miss!! This is a moderate hike with a length of approximately 5.5 miles round trip.
