UTEP Union Gallery Presents:
GREEN: Young, Lush and Blooming

04.16.09-The UTEP Union Gallery proudly presents Green: Young, Lush and Blooming, a group exhibition of artists sharing with the rest their viewpoints on global issues. By making art or furniture, each artist has given individual thought to how the current issues are affecting them and creating original artwork to make their statement.

Green: Young, Lush and Blooming will be on exhibit at the UTEP Union Gallery, 2nd floor Union East, from April 23, 2009 to May 08, 2009 with reception to take place on the evening of April 23, 2009 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Featuring El Paso artists, Brandon Carrillo, Akiceri Estrada, Edgar Lopez, Luis Nieto Dickens, and Kaletia Roberts, Green: Young, Lush and Blooming explores how to communicate to others all of their viewpoints and all have one thing in common: the urge of expressing how global issues are directly or indirectly affecting them. Hence, this exhibition is the attempt to plant seeds for blooming young and lush branches of awareness of consumerism, nature appreciation and green education.

Curated by Student Gallery Coordinator Alejandra M. Carrillo

About the artists:

Brandon Carrillo is a current web designer who promotes green web hosts to only local businesses. He received a bachelor’s in industrial design at the University of Notre Dame.

Akiceri Estrada is a conceptual sculptor who lives in El Paso and plans to explore the cliché of Car Bumpers found on the roads by doing an installation with them.

Edgar Lopez is a local architect from the Mijares and Mora firm. All of his furniture in his house has been built from either found objects or from recycled materials. As a designer, Lopez promotes green thinking by taking the creativity one step further.

Luis Nieto Dickens is an El Pasoan/Juarense whose work focuses in the space in relationship with the body as well as print making. He also uses found wood and materials to make furniture.

Kaletia Roberts is best known as a conceptual performer who uses her body as a medium. She will be creating an on site piece that expresses the excessiveness of today’s consumerist culture.
