El Niño de Atocha is a legendary child-figure from the 13th century Moorish invasions of Atocha, Spain, who was said to have miraculously brought food and water to the Christian prisoners. The Spaniards introduced this subject to the indigenous populations ofMexico and it soon became one of the most widely depicted subjects from the 19th century onward to this day.
