Synopsis:
Il Tabarro
Living on a barge on the Seine in Paris, Michele is tormented by the conviction that his wife Giorgetta is having an affair with Luigi, a stevedore. When she plans a secret tryst with him, Luigi sees a light in the barge and mistakes it for the signal to visit her. Instead, he encounters Michele, who strangles him, and then conceals the body under a cloak – un Tabarro – until Giorgetta comes home.
Suor Angelia
Angelica, a nun, has long been ostracized by her family. Her aunt, a princess, arrives unexpectedly to announce that Angelica’s illegitimate child, the reasons for her reclusion, has died. In despair, Angelica takes poison, and then remembers that suicide is a mortal sin. She prays fervently for salvation to the Madonna who appears with Angelica’s lost child, to lead the dying nun toward heaven.
Gianni Schicchi
The family of the recently deceased Buoso Donati is horrified to learn that he has left his fortune to a monastery. The wily Gianni Schicchi is quickly summoned and, at the insistence of his daughter Laurette, pretends to be Donati. A notary is summoned and, imitating the ailing Donati, Schicchi writes a fresh will, bequeathing most of Donati’s property to himself.
