(El Paso, Texas) Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande’s newest addition in El Paso County, the Norman Haley Employment Center is now officially one year old! An anniversary celebration is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.
Located in the heart of Downtown El Paso at 300 East Main, the Norman Haley Employment Center is the result of a resolution passed by the El Paso City Council. The state-of-the-art facility is 15,000 square feet and features an employment resource center, employer interviewing rooms, job fair and training conference areas along with a computer lab.
In its first year, the Norman Haley Employment Center has assisted thousands of job seekers, multiple employers and is responsible for many success stories. One of those is the Neighborhood Wal-Mart at Redd and Resler that opened its doors earlier this year.
To get the store ready for opening day Jose Marquez and his management team worked out of the Norman Haley Employment Center Downtown holding a job fair, followed by interviews then training for new staff.
“That was a great resource for us,” said Marquez. “I would recommend it to anybody.”

The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market brought 125 new jobs with it, 115 that were filled with the help of Workforce Solutions.
“We are very proud of contributions and the impact we are making in the community,” said Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande CEO Lorenzo Reyes. “We are now taking some of the best practices from this employment center and spreading them system-wide to improve our services.”
The location is named after Norman Haley, the first President/Executive Director for Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande then known as Upper Rio Grande @ Work. Mr. Haley was an honored veteran, whose post military career spanned nearly two decades in workforce development. His emphasis was on case management/social services. Under his leadership the predecessor to Upper Rio Grande @ Work, Private Industry Council (PIC) was recognized as one of the best in the nation and was recognized repeatedly for performance.
The center also highlights other leaders in workforce development. Conference rooms and the computer lab bear their names.
The Employment Center also brings good news for taxpayers. It will save URGWDB $250,000 a year in operational costs.
Jobseekers and employers can visit the center Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
