last time i checked we've had a Democrat led House and Senate since 2006 and they've done nothing to stop the building of the border wall.... Looks like the hispanics are confused on just who is responsible for the wall. Pelosi could stop the construction by defunding it at any moment, but chooses not to - why?

Illegal immigrants paying more taxes than you think

Eight million illegals pay Social Security, Medicare and income taxes. Denying public services to people who pay their taxes is an affront to America’s bedrock belief in fairness. But many “pull-up-the-drawbridge” politicians want to do just that when it comes to illegal immigrants.

The fact that illegal immigrants pay taxes at all will come as news to many Americans. A stunning twothirds of illegal immigrants pay Medicare, Social Security and personal income taxes.

Yet, nativists like Congressman Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., have popularized the notion that illegal aliens are a colossal drain on the nation’s hospitals, schools and welfare programs — consuming services that they don’t pay for.

In reality, the 1996 welfare reform bill disqualified illegal immigrants from nearly all meanstested government programs including food stamps, housing assistance, Medicaid and Medicare-funded hospitalization.

The only services that illegals can still get are emergency medical care and K-12 education. Nevertheless, Tancredo and his ilk pushed a bill through the House criminalizing all aid to illegal aliens — even private acts of charity by priests, nurses and social workers.

Potentially, any soup kitchen that offers so much as a free lunch to an illegal could face up to five years in prison and seizure of assets. The Senate bill that recently collapsed would have tempered these draconian measures against private aid.

But no one — Democrat or Republican — seems to oppose the idea of withholding public services. Earlier this year, Congress passed a law that requires everyone who gets Medicaid — the government-funded health care program for the poor — to offer proof of U.S. citizenship so we can avoid “theft of these benefits by illegal aliens,” as Rep. Charlie Norwood, R-Ga., puts it. But, immigrants aren’t flocking to the United States to mooch off the government.

According to a study by the Urban Institute, the 1996 welfare reform effort dramatically reduced the use of welfare by undocumented immigrant households, exactly as intended. And another vital thing happened in 1996: the Internal Revenue Service began issuing identification numbers to enable illegal immigrants who don’t have Social Security numbers to file taxes.

One might have imagined that those fearing deportation or confronting the prospect of paying for their safety net through their own meager wages would take a pass on the IRS’ scheme. Not so. Close to 8 million of the 12 million or so illegal aliens in the country today file personal income taxes using these numbers, contributing billions to federal coffers.

No doubt they hope that this will one day help them acquire legal status — a plaintive expression of their desire to play by the rules and come out of the shadows. What’s more, aliens who are not self-employed have Social Security and Medicare taxes automatically withheld from their paychecks.

Since undocumented workers have only fake numbers, they’ll never be able to collect the benefits these taxes are meant to pay for. Last year, the revenues from these fake numbers — that the Social Security administration stashes in the “earnings suspense file” — added up to 10 percent of the Social Security surplus.

The file is growing, on average, by more than $50 billion a year. Beyond federal taxes, all illegals automatically pay state sales taxes that contribute toward the upkeep of public facilities such as roads that they use, and property taxes through their rent that contribute toward the schooling of their children.

The non-partisan National Research Council found that when the taxes paid by the children of low-skilled immigrant families — most of whom are illegal — are factored in, they contribute on average $80,000 more to federal coffers than they consume. Yes, many illegal migrants impose a strain on border communities on whose doorstep they first arrive, broke and unemployed.

To solve this problem equitably, these communities ought to receive the surplus taxes that federal government collects from immigrants. But the real reason border communities are strained is the lack of a guest worker program.

Such a program would match willing workers with willing employers in advance so that they wouldn’t be stuck for long periods where they disembark while searching for jobs. The cost of undocumented aliens is an issue that immigrant bashers have created to whip up indignation against people they don’t want here in the first place.

With the Senate having just returned from yet another vacation and promising to revisit the stalled immigration bill, politicians ought to set the record straight: Illegals are not milking the government. If anything, it is the other way around.

I would not attribute their loss to them being not wanted but rather because of the amount of people voting straight ticket. If anything its because the GOP itself has image problems that go beyond a single issue.

Caring Human needs to wake up. Because "some" illegals pay "some" taxes is hardly an indication of "a plaintive expression of their desire to play by the rules and come out of the shadows. " Looks like they have adopted the strategy of many American politicians, they want to play by the rules they like. Those other rules, such as entering the country legally, are an inconvenience and just not fair. You can dummy up all the funny math you want to support your position, but as anyone who pays county and school taxes knows, the illegals can't possibly be paying their fair share to cover those expenses. That's not even taking into consideration their contribution to the dumming down of America because the curriculum must be taught in a 2nd language. Now more than ever America can't affford to have the freeloaders here. That's not inhumane or racist as some would suggest, just a large dose of reality this country sadly lacks but will soon be force fed, like it or not.

This article does not note that "America's Voice" is a pro-illegal-immigration organization that is partially funded by the racist lobbying group, the National Council of La Raza. It is not an unbiased organization.

If all the American companies operating manufacturing plants in Mexico would stop engaging in collusion to artificially maintain the pitifully low wages paid to Mexican workers, there would be a lot fewer Mexicans seeking to cross the border illegally into the United States.

The maquilas are a huge employer in Cd. Juarez. Approximately 250,000 people work in the maquila industry in Cd. Juarez. That is probably the size of the entire work force in El Paso.

Hopefully the new Obama administration, especially Secretary of State Clinton, will take measures to force American companies to pay living wages to maquila plant workers in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Hopefully the new Obama administration will also force Mexico and other Latin American countries to provide a free education to 100% of it children. Presently, 20 to 30% of children in Cd. Juarez do not attend school and will become illiterate and completely uneducated adults. This may guarantee a continual source of workers for the maquila industry, but it also guarantees a continual supply of individuals engaged in crime.

How interesting that on the border there are no boundaries,
only masses, overpopulation. The number one issue should be security. So you see, in the end we all go down.

We need the SAVE ACT and E-verify used for every business and NOT Amnesty.

6. The average head of household illegal alien costs you $2,700.00 in welfare money over and above any taxes he or she pays in their meager paying jobs. With 15 to 20 million illegal aliens in the USA, that figures exceeds $20 billion of your tax dollars, according to Center for Immigration Studies, August 2004)

7. $56 billion in pure cash illegal migrants sent to their home countries last year and every year? That’s after their kids enjoyed free education, free lunches and free medical care paid for by you.

8. With a minimum of 37 million illegal aliens in our country, (according to the Tucson Border Patrol Union) these figures are the tip of the iceberg. Average bilingual education is $1,200.00 per illegal alien student. We educate 1.1 million illegal alien children each year. You paid $27 billion to provide forms, ballots, interpreters and brochures for languages other than English in 2003.

9. An estimated one-third to one-half illegal aliens work off the books. It costs $200 million to provide for emergency health care for illegal aliens in the Border States annually. California with over three million illegals paid $79 million, BUT four of their major LA hospitals bankrupted and shut their doors in 2004. Texas with 1.5 million illegal aliens paid $74 million in hospital care. Who is Texas? You, the taxpayer, that’s who! Because you, in your state, pay commensurate medical care according to your illegal alien population. Georgia ran a $63 million deficit for 64,000 unpaid doctor visits to their Grady Health Care system in 2002. In the same year, Georgia taxpayers paid $27 million for 11,188 anchor baby hospital births. Georgia taxpayers paid a whopping $242 million for educating illegal alien kids in 2003. What is it in your state?

What are the consequences? One in two adult African-Americans in New York is unemployed. African-American children’s poverty grew by 50 percent since 1999. Why? Their dads can’t find work.

10. Illegals are arriving at over 4,000 per night according to Time Magazine, September 12, 2004, "Who Left the Door Open?" I quote, "That total of illegal aliens flooding into the United States this year will total three million. An additional half-million are coming every year.

In 1996 Illegal aliens were then displacing 730,000 American workers a year, so says Rice University.

It is estimated that the cost to supporting illegal aliens is over a $1trillion dollars a year in government handouts.
