Media Watch: Ian Reitz

by NPT Staff

Ian Reitz, co-anchor of the Weekend Edition of KTSM-Channel 9, has announced plans to leave the station and move to Tuscon, Ariz. “I’m excited about new opportunities,” said Reitz, who will be the morning and 10 a.m. co-anchor at ABC affiliate KGUN. He also is expected to participate in investigative reports for the 10 p.m. broadcast.

Since his arrival in the El Paso area, Reitz has covered plenty of stories. Some that stand out for him include “the flood, and travelling to San Diego to cover the fires and the volunteers.”

While in El Paso he flew with the Golden Knights, trained with the FBI and attended the Border Patrol Academy. Reitz has been honored by the Texas and New Mexico Association of Broadcasters for covering crime-related issues, according to the KTSM website.

Reitz worked in Palm Springs and in Orange County Calif. He started his career on the assignment desk at KTTV-Fox in the Los Angeles area.

Reitz is a graduate of Chapman University with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science/International Relations. While specializing in Latin American politics, he spent two summers studying foreign policy in Cuba, Costa Rica and Panama. During his undergraduate years, Reitz sang at China's Great Hall of the People and Australia's Sydney Opera House, according to the website. Reitz also likes to read, work out and explore the Southwest.

While excited to be closer to family in California and Arizona, Reitz says he wouldn’t mind returning to El Paso: “Never say never.”

Reitz's departure from the newsroom follows those of Felipa Solis and Suzy Flores.
