NPT Family Tree: The Best of the Blogs

by NPT Staff

The Internet in some ways can be compared to turn-of-the-century newspapering, when new printing press technology allowed unprecedented numbers of people to communicate through print. As David Romo has pointed out in his book, "Ringside Seat to a Revolution," the Borderland was packed with publishers.

It is again, as the Internet provides an easy-to-use, inexpensive platform for people of all opinions.

What follows are some highlights from the El Paso "blogosphere":

On the Strelz forum:

Regarding Rachel Quintana's request for a venue change:

"What a joke. When is RQ going to grow up and face the music? Let it be understood that Quintana has a perfect right to seek that change of venue. But Esparza also has the right to oppose the request for a change, and that's exactly what he should do. One thing he's tasked with is to move cases efficiently and expeditiously, and it would certainly expedite matters to keep the case in El Paso."

Regarding the Creative Class theories of Richard Florida:

There is a finite number of Creative Class types who possess the entreprenuerial skills to start up the kinds of businesses that Richard Florida identifies as the key to future prosperity for cities and communities. There simply are not enough of these Creative Class types in existence to populate all the cities and communities which are paying Richard Florida to guide them in implementing his formula in hopes of achieving Silicon Valley type prosperity. "Creative Class" is a code word for making Richard Florida extremely wealthy by making cities and communities all over the United States, and all over the world, buy into his pyramid scheme.

On the Lionstar blog:

If you’ve been paying attention to elections over the last couple of years, you’ve probably noticed El Paso is going through a change in leadership. There is a definite youth movement going on. The 40 and under crowd is starting to make up a large portion of the elected officials here in town and I think it represents an important transition in El Paso politics.

On Refuse the Juice:

Until we hold the folks working in the halls of local government as accountable as we do the ones on the top floor we will not beat this problem. It takes more than one Commissioner or Council person to make a scheme work. There are lots of people that were hired, not elected, involved to make these things go undetected for so long. I can't say what I know. I'm saying too much already. You have to look closely. You have to follow the money. You have to give the inquisitive eye to even those you like or know.

On The Avocadoan:

One explanation for the douchebag’s ability to attract females was proposed to me by another friend. Douchebags look like they spend a lot to look the way they do. Thus, the theory follows that douchebags must have a decent amount of money, so the money attracts the females. Whatever it is, I will give credit to these douchebags. Hey, you guys are buying drinks and attracting nice-looking females.
