According to El Paso County Fire Marshal Steve Hoeller, the flames started about 11:30 a.m. He said as of 12:45 p.m., 40 to 50 explosions were being recorded per minute.
An evacuation was ordered for 1/4 mile around the area.
About two acres of recyclables are on fire, but responding crews are holding off on dousing the flames because of the explosions. All volunteer firefighters are being called to the scene.
