MAN DIES IN SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION

EL PASO, TEXAS –A man dies in a single vehicle collision. The Special Traffic Investigations Unit (STI) responded to the 9400 block of Montana to assist Pebble Hills Patrol with a traffic fatality. The preliminary investigation revealed 19-year old Jose Gonzalez drove a Chevy Malibu eastbound on Montana at a high rate of speed. Gonzalez lost control driving onto the center median where he struck a signal pole at the intersection of Rutherglen. Gonzalez died at the scene. The investigation continues.

EL PASO, TEXAS –A teen is killed in a collision. The Special Traffic Investigations Unit (STI) responded to the 4900 block of Tetons to assist Northeast Patrol with a traffic fatality. The preliminary investigation revealed 18-year old David Buenrostro drove a 2001 PT Cruiser east on Tetons with two passengers. Buenrostro failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection of Diana where his vehicle was struck by a southbound Yukon driven by 40-year old Fernando Terrazas. Buenrostro was taken to WBAMC where he was pronounced dead. None of the passengers were injured. Buenrostro was wearing a seatbelt and speed and investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were factors. The investigation continues.

MAN ARRESTED FOR PEDESTRIAN HIT AND RUN

Wanted: 35-year old Sergio Herrera of the 11600 block of Soberana

EL PASO, TEXAS –Police continue their investigation into last weekend’s pedestrian hit and run. On December 21, 2009 investigators located and seized the vehicle they believe struck Jose Hernandez. Investigators also developed probable cause and secured a warrant for the arrest of 35-year old Sergio Herrera. Investigators believe Herrera struck Hernandez and immediately fled the scene. Shortly after two this afternoon, Herrera turned himself into police at the Central Regional Command Center on one count of Accident Involving Injury or Death. The investigation continues.

HISTORY: Police investigate a pedestrian hit and run. The Special Traffic Investigations Unit (STI) responded to 12000 block of Edgemere to assist Pebble Hills Patrol with a pedestrian collision. The preliminary investigation revealed 22-year old Jose Hernandez attempted to cross Edgemere on foot from south to north. While crossing Edgemere’s westbound lanes Hernandez was struck by a vehicle that subsequently fled the scene. Hernandez was taken to UMC where he remains in critical condition. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark in color full size four door pickup. Investigators believe it may have been a Chevrolet Silverado or Avalanche.

UPDATE: 2ND ARREST MADE IN HORIZON TRUCK STOP THEFT CASE

RESULT: ARREST MADE / DELAYED POSTING DUE TO ONGOING INVESTIGATION

EL PASO COUNTY, TX- Earlier this month on 12-07-09, Strike Team Deputies arrested 41 year-old ALFREDO CALDERON for Theft Over $500- Under $1,500. Deputies continuing with the investigation have now arrested a second subject in connection with the same theft case generated from a truck stop in the Horizon / I-10 area. Recently, there had been an increased number of thefts and burglaries reported in the area of the Horizon truck stops. Strike Team Deputies had been working several leads & conducting surveillance in the area to detect, and apprehend person(s) involved in the criminal activity. The individual arrested has been identified as LEOBARDO NAVA (38) of the 13100 block of Grand River El Paso County, TX (Sparks). These arrests have produced possible leads to other theft & burglary cases which are now being investigated by the El County Sheriff’s Office Strike Team.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE DETECTIVES SEEK SUSPECT IN ARMED ROBBERY CASE

SHERIFF’S INVESTIGATORS SEEK SUSPECT IN ARMED ROBBERY

Crime Stoppers of El Paso is assisting Sheriff’s Office Detectives in identifying and locating a suspect who committed an aggravated robbery in Canutillo, making this the “Crime of the Week.”

On Tuesday night, November 3rd, just after 9:00 P.M., a black male entered Edgar’s Quicky Stop, located at 6844 First Street in Canutillo. As soon as the subject entered, he put on a dark colored handkerchief and sunglasses to cover his face. The suspect then pulled out a handgun, which he pointed at the two clerks in the store, and he stole an undetermined amount of money and Newport brand cigarettes. The suspect fled in a dark colored vehicle driven by another person.

The suspect is described only as a black man who is approximately 5’07” and weighs 180 lbs. There is no description of the other person. The vehicle is described as dark colored, possibly bearing Texas license plate PFR-720.
