Latest campaign reports: With big help from PACs, incumbents raise bigger bucks by David Crowder
Campaign finance reports filed Friday show Mayor John Cook, who started the political season with $65,000 in the bank, has raised $51,150 since Jan. 1 and spent $95,029 on his campaign and had $14,017 left. His closest rival, Gus Haddad, has raised $59,650, spent $59,239 and has $7,797 left.

Cobos' PAC involved in El Paso, Horizon City races by David Crowder
A political action committee controlled by County Judge Anthony Cobos that is contributing to several El Paso City Council candidates is also involved in the Horizon City Council races for the second election in a row.

EPPD Chief Allen: Open to reviewing officer accountability by David Crowder
The department tracks public complaints about officers and looks closely at those getting too many. Asked if the department would also track certain types of arrests, such as disorderly conduct resisting arrest and aggravated assault on an officer, Allen said, “Yes, if that’s what the public wants.”

Gov. Perry issues swine flu disaster proclamation by NPT Staff
"In accordance with the authority vested in me by Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, I do hereby declare a state of disaster based on the existence of such threat, and direct that all necessary measures both public and private as authorized under Section 418.017 of the code be implemented to meet that threat." -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

No swine flu in El Paso, officials on alert by Elizabeth Ruiz
The City of El Paso Department of Public Health held a press conference to announce that there have been no local cases of swine flu. “This is not a cause of major alarm, but it is a cause for concern,” said Michael Hill, director of the City of El Paso Department of Public Health.
