Massacre in the Sierra Tarahumara by Frontera NorteSur
The Creel attack this weekend, in which 13 people were killed, could be the latest example of the “Iraqization” of Mexico’s narco-war. Massacres, multiple kidnappings, mass graves and gang-installed checkpoints have been registered in Chihuahua and Mexico this year.

Two dirty words at City Council Monday by Sito Negron
City Council will consider the cost of land considered ideal for a Downtown transit hub. Two words, "eminent" and "domain," came into play. Meanwhile, the question of a permanent Downtwn location for Sun Metro riders lingers.

15 Minutes of Hell in a Juarez Prayer Assembly by Molly Molloy
The room was about 30 feet long and perhaps 12 feet wide. A dozen or more people attending the prayer service had tried to save themselves by running into the tiny bathroom at the back corner.

Centro Mayapan by Catherine Cromer
On Aug. 28, La Mujer Obrera will have a fundraiser for the new Centro Mayapan, 2101 Myrtle, which will open to the community for the first time. The official grand opening for Centro Mayapan, which will have a festival marketplace and community center, is in February.

Times' Editor Don Flores resigns abruptly by Sito Negron
Don Flores, who has been an executive and the top editor at the El Paso Times, has resigned. Flores' departure ended a 15-year turn as top newsman at the paper, the largest and arguably most influential news outlet in the community.

Nomination withdrawn. Quickly. by Sito Negron
Within an hour or so of Newspaper Tree making inquiries into the nomination of District Clerk Gilbert Sanchez to the Fair Housing Task Force, Northeast city Rep. Melina Castro pulled the item from proposal for next week's agenda.
