Don't forget, El Paso eagerly is anticipating Karl Rove's appearance at a fund-raiser for U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, (R-Texas), next week. Rove is to be in El Paso Monday at the home of J.O. and Marlene Stewart, who are part of a group of Republican big-money donors in El Paso.
Also on that list are the familiar names at these big money events: Brown, Francis, Foster, Hunt, Sanders, Hahn, Houghton, Margo, etc (for a list of the host committee, view invitation via the link below).
Those also are familiar names when it comes to El Pasoans on important state boards and commissions -- for example, Houghton on the Texas Transportation Commission, Francis on the Texas Tech board of trustees. They are familiar names on such big-picture economic development efforts as the Medical Center of the Americas, the Regional Mobility Association, and the Downtown Plan. And they are familiar names on the campaign donor list for state representative candidate Dee Margo.
Now, the fund-raiser is not for Margo.
But his opponent, Democratic candidate Joe Moody, is trying to piggyback off it to use it to his advantage anyway.
Moody is having a fund-raiser at the same time, and Monday sent this e-mail to supporters:
Greetings!
On Monday August 18th, the king of attack politics, Karl Rove, will be in El Paso to help raise money for John Cornyn. While they are enjoying their high dollar invitation-only party, I would like to have you and your family join me at the GRAND OPENING of our Campaign HQ at 6127 N. Mesa.
We will be getting together from 5:30 to 7:30 on August 18th. Joining us will be special guest, Representative Pete Gallego. First elected in 1990, Representative Gallego is a powerful voice in the Texas House who has won numerous awards for his legislative service. Since 2001, he has served as the Chair of the Mexican-American Legislative Caucus.
We have all come to know and loathe the divisive politics of Karl Rove, and on Monday the 18th we will have the chance to show that unity and the politics of hope are the way to move El Paso and Texas forward.
Oddly, he does not thank Rove and Cornyn for their help in providing him a fund-raising opportunity ...

Speaking of Moody, he was one of the hopefuls in attendance at the Obama campaign headquarters opening this weekend. Here's a pretty complete list of those in attendance, from an email circulating through the Democratic Party community. It's also worth noting who wasn't there -- in particular, El Paso County Democratic Party Chairman Danny Anchondo, and Yolanda Clay, the person Anchondo named to head the Unity Campaign, an effort to reconcile Clinton and Obama supporters. Good luck with that ...

Not only was Danny Anchondo not there - sore loser - but, where were all the Clintonites? Sore losers? I mean, they gave it their best shot, but they lost. So, forget that and join the party - the Obama Campaign stands for true change - I mean, True Change!
But, you know what? It behooves Obama to select Hillary Clinton as his running mate. I don't think any of the other potentials for VP will fill the need. I used to think Bill Richardson would be a great VP, but, on second thought, he'd be better as Secty. of State. With Hillary on the ticket, all the sore-loser Clintonites will have to be happy. Or will they? I'm afraid they're planning a revolution of sorts at the Convention. They will try to steal the spotlight from Obama. If Obama's smart, he'll step out of the way before he gets run over by Bill Clinton. After Obama wins the election, he can appoint Bill to an ambassadorship somewhere that he won't get into trouble. Maybe in the land of Amazon Women - he'd be right at home.

And what is so impressive with a bunch of anglo surnamed people
making fortunes off the minority population ,who ALL agree that they like DIVISIVE political has beens like Rove. They can't go forward because they are in that 16% of people who still think Bush is doing a heck of a job. Good luck with THAT.
Where is Moody's fair and equally legthy free advertisement that NPT plugged for Margo?

Will Moody Jr. join the Shapleigh in pushing Texas to the left if elected. Does El Paso need to be further neglected?

Interesting to note that in a town of 80 some percent Hispanics that not one Hispanic name appears on the high dollar republican invitation. Hmmm?
