Republican Dee Margo and Democrat Joe Moody both raised large amounts of since July and much of it from outside El Paso. Moody made up considerable ground on his Republican opponent, testament to the importance being placed on District 78 for Texas Democrats. PACs working for a Democratic majority in Texas gave Moody a whopping $50,000.
Margo too received substantial doe from out of town including $25,000 from the “Stars over Texas” PAC. It seems like El Paso is in the scheme of things for a lot of people across the political spectrum hundreds of miles east.
Despite Moody’s impressive catching-up, Margo has outspent his Democratic opponent 2-to1 since July and retains twice as much cash-on-hand from the first half of the year. That leaves Margo with $195,189.20 to play with compared to Moody’s $103,111.84 notwithstanding the money that will inevitably roll in over the next month. Expect to see most of this money converted into TV ads.
