In 2005, the federal government has proposed a budget of over $12 billion in drug control spending. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) was created in 1988 under the Anti-Drug Abuse Act, and tasked with establishing priorities and policies to control the spread of illicit drug use and related consequences.
