West Texas Food Bank Receives Grant to Fight Child Hunger

El Paso, TX – West Texas Food Bank announced today that it has received $20,000 to combat child hunger in El Paso Colonias. The grant will be used for the “Para Los Niños De Las Colonias” initiative. The initiative will consist of providing over 600 (40 lbs) emergency boxes to children of El Paso Colonias on a monthly basis for 6 months. The first distribution will be held on Wednesday, April 9th at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. at the El Paso County Self-Help Center and Alianza para el Desarrollo Comunitario.

The grant was made possible by Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF), which was established to raise awareness of poverty across the United States and throughout the world. With this mission, CPEF teamed up with FOX and “AMERICAN IDOL” to present “IDOL GIVES BACK”.

“We are extremely grateful for this support of our work to help feed hungry children,” said Hyta Folsom, Executive Director. Each year, approximately 9 million children receive food through the America’s Second Harvest Network. In El Paso, the West Texas Food Bank provides food to more than 40,000 people living at risk of hunger. “This grant will help WTFB and other food banks across the country continue to ensure that these children do not go to bed hungry or wonder where their next meal will come from.”

West Texas Food Bank works to alleviate hunger by distributing food and groceries through a network of community and faith-based nonprofit organizations while increasing community awareness on issues of hunger. To learn more about the programs of West Texas Food Bank, go to www.WTxFoodBank.org
