EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso Convention & Visitors Bureau and the El Paso Convention &
Performing Arts Centers is proud to unveil a new weekly blog by Jim Ward, fifth generation El
Pasoan and frontman of the band Sleepercar. The blog will be located on the tourism bureau’s website
(visitelpaso.com).
“My Town with Jim Ward,” will launch on Wednesday, April 15 and serves to educate El Pasoans
about the various musical and arts events throughout the city. “I want everyone in this city to refer to El
Paso as their town, to take pride in it and want it to be better,” Ward said.
The weekly blog is a partnership between Ward and the El Paso CVB and El Paso CPAC and will allow
bloggers of “My Town” to get involved in the local arts and music scene in a variety of ways:
1. STREET TEAM – Participants can take part in a “street team” which helps promote events by hanging
up posters and passing out flyers, and in exchange for helping, they can qualify for special treats, ranging
from tickets to shows, merchandise, or meet and greets with bands.
2. FANS OF EL PASO – This is a fan club for the city. Participants sign up with their email address and
mobile number to receive emails and/or text messages with important news regarding upcoming shows.
Members of F.E.P. will be able to buy tickets to shows before the general public.
3. CALENDAR – The calendar is an on-line listing of events where individuals can find out what is
happening in El Paso.
“My Town” is the first-ever blog on the city’s tourism/events website and is intended to excite El Pasoans
about the local arts and music scene and involve them in helping to increase the reach to a wider
audience.
“Everyone's definition of making the town better is probably different; mine is to focus on live music, and
so this is the route I am going to take. I do encourage everyone to make the city better in their own way
though,” says Ward.
