Update: Swine Influenza
April 30, 2009 – The City of El Paso Department of Public Health today identified eight suspect cases of swine flu.
The laboratory samples are being forwarded to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further testing. The test results are expected within five days. The Department of Public Health’s investigation into these suspect cases is continuing. No additional information about these suspect cases is being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
We would like to remind the public that at this time, there are no confirmed cases of swine flu in El Paso County and most cases in the U.S. have been mild.
The Department of Public Health’s goal is to reduce transmission as much as possible. To accomplish this, we remain committed to providing information to assist health care providers, public health officials and the public address the challenges posed by Swine Influenza.
In addition, the department remains in constant communication with local, state and federal health partners regarding preparedness and response efforts for El Paso County. We also are continuing to monitor Swine Influenza cases in the U.S. and Mexico to help ensure the health and safety of our citizens.
